Chiropractic (NOT chiropractie) care is performed by a chiropractor. Chiropractors are neck and back pain specialists, or back doctors, trained to provide neck and backpain management and relief, as well as relief for other areas of the body. Chiropractic specializes in therapy and treatment of sciatica, sciatic nerve pain, pulled muscles, muscle spasms, scoliosis, spinal stenosis, osteoarthritis, spondylosis, other chronic back and spinal pain, and bulging discs (also called slipped disc or herniated disc). Bulging discs, or herniated/slipped discs can be described as a pinched nerve and feel similar to sciatica or sciatic nerve pain, but have different causes of lumbar/lower back pain. Therapy for these lumbar spine and neck disorders and relief of lower back pain comes in the form of adjustments by the chiropractors, acupuncture, lower back stretches, orthotics and backpain exercises. There are many spine stabilizing muscles that can be strengthened to help patients overcome the strenuous tasks of everyday life that strain the back and neck muscles.
Chiropractic can also treat other conditions of the body such as neck pain, shoulder and knee pain, osteoarthritis outside of the spine, in addition to the more familiar conditions noted such as scoliosis, spinal stenosis, bulging discs (herniated/slipped discs), sciatica, sciatic nerve pain, pinched nerves, spondylosis, pulled back muscles, and muscle spasms.
